Head Lights Comes ON by Itself?

Head light problem on 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. Headlights comes ON automatically and goes OFF.

WHY THE HEADLAMPS COMES ON BY THEMSELVES?

Head lamps coming up automatically, without you actually operating it to turn ON.

There are a few possible things that can cause headlamps to come on by themselves. To confirm the issue the possibilities needs to be checked.
Possible causes would include

  • The problem with  multifunction switch on the steering column,
  • Issue with body control module called BCM,
  • Or issue with front control module also called FCM, and
  • Or a shorting problem with wiring in between the components.
WHAT CONTROLS THE HEADLAMP AND THE SWITCH?

The front control module is what controls the lamps, it controls them based on a signal from the body control module. The body control module is what actually looks at the position of the switch.

ANY OTHER POSSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM?

In most of such cases the problem is mulifunction switch or its issue with any of modules if wiring is checked ok.

The components in the rest of the system are certainly possible, but are far less likely to cause the problem. Headlamps coming on by themselves is almost always caused by an internal failure of the switch. If the return voltage coming out of the switch enters the right range then the BCM will send a signal to the FCM to turn the lights on.But if the switch is got shorted then it will give incorrect signal causing the light to come ON with out command.

ANY WAY TO CONFIRM THE ISSUE?

The only way to know for sure what is going on would be to have a scan tool on it at the time it's acting up to look at the module inputs, but if you are wanting to try to repair it yourself I would recommend replacing the switch. You have a 99% chance of fixing it with a switch.Because this is what in most of such cases the problem is.And replacing the switch solves it.

Hope this details helps you out.
Thanks.
