How to replace Oil Pan on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt ?


Oil Pan



Removal & Installation



2.0L & 2.2L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Remove the engine drive belt.
  5. On the 2.0L engine, remove the intercooler pump bracket bolts from the oil pan.
  6. Remove the lower A/C compressor bolt from the oil pan.
  7. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  8. Remove the oil pan.
To install:
  1. Make sure that the oil pan and mounting surface on the lower crankcase are free of all oil and debris.

    Fig. Apply a 2mm bead of GM P/N 123785251 (Canadian P/N 88901148) around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening-2.0L, 2.2L, & 2.4L engines
  2. Apply a 2 mm bead of GM P/N 123785251 (Canadian P/N 88901148) around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening. Do not over apply the RTV. More than a 2 mm bead is not required.
  3. Install the oil pan.

  4. Install the oil pan bolts in sequence. Tighten the oil pan bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  5. Install the A/C compressor bolts. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6. On the 2.0L engine, install the intercooler pump bracket bolts. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  7. Install the engine drive belt.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Fill the engine oil to the proper level.
2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The accessory drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts removal and installation
    The lower A/C compressor bolt.
    The 4 oil pan to transaxle bolts
    The oil pan bolts
    The oil pan
    Old oil pan sealant
To install:

Fig. Apply a 2mm bead of GM P/N 123785251 (Canadian P/N 88901148) around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening-2.0L, 2.2L, & 2.4L engines
  1. Make sure the oil pan and sealing surface on the lower crankcase are free of all oil and debris.
  2. Apply a 2mm bead (1) of GM P/N 123785251 sealant around the perimeter of the oil pan and the oil suction port opening.
    NOTE
    Do not over apply the sealant.
  3. Install the oil pan.
  4. Install the 4 oil pan to transaxle bolts. Tighten the bolts to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).

  5. Tighten the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6. Install the lower A/C compressor bolt.
  7. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belt removal and installation.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Fill the engine oil to the proper level.
