How to remove Rear Main Seal on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt ?


Rear Main Seal


Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the transaxle.
  3. Remove the flywheel.
    NOTE
    Do not damage the outside diameter of the crankshaft or chamber with any tool.

  4. Pry the crankshaft rear oil seal with a flat-bladed tool.
To install:
  1. Use a seal driver such as J 42067 and install the seal.

  2. Install the flywheel. Tighten the flywheel bolts to 39 ft. lbs. (53 Nm) plus 25°.
  3. Install the transaxle.
